Cable Station Heritage

From 1884 Waterville was the main European hub of the Commercial Cable Company, linking Europe and North America by telegraph.

The Commercial Cable Company opened its Waterville station in 1884, with a cable to Nova Scotia; it became the company's principal European station, with further links to England and France. The Kerry cable stations received an IEEE International Milestone award in 2000. Tech Amergin has an exhibition on the station's history, and the Waterville Heritage Trail passes the remaining buildings.
